Syzygy Plasmonics Inc. (Houston, Texas) is a deep-decarbonization company. It builds reactors that use light to electrify and eliminate combustion in chemical manufacturing and power a cleaner, safer world. Utilizing technology licensed from Rice University and advanced engineering developed in-house, Syzygy is commercializing a universal light-driven reactor platform. When powered with renewable electricity, this tunable technology reduces both cost and emissions from many different chemical reactions.
Job Summary: Syzygy Plasmonics Inc. is seeking a Director of Government Relations. This role is responsible for planning and executing a Public Policy strategy for Syzygy in partnership with VP's of Finance, Business Development, Marketing & Communications. The Director must have significant leadership skills to drive legislative strategies forward and an extensive network to drive program creation and program capture on Syzygy's behalf.   • Develop and implement Syzygy's Government Engagement and Government Relations strategy
  • Lead Syzygy's engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders to successfully implement our government relations strategy
  • Advocate for Syzygy's interests to public officials at all levels of government, helping grow Syzygy's public profile and leading to positive policy outcomes
  • Develop networks to organize and align stakeholders in order to monitor, apply for, and capture non-dilutive funding opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align public policy strategy with technology development and commercial development strategies
  • Regularly communicate activities internally to ensure transparency and share intelligence to support corporate strategy
  • Recognized expert with at least 10+ years of experience in an energy policy, public affairs, or regulatory role, either in government, the non-profit or private sector
  • Demonstrated ability to set policy strategy and hit key milestones
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with federal agencies, including organizational structure, process, and policy objectives
  • Experience merging business development with public policy activities will be considered a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as required Skills and Background:
    • Ability to coordinate work by multiple teams within the company to produce an excellent work product under tight deadlines
    • Intimate familiarity with the Department of Energy and other governmental offices, programs, and key personnel
    • A broad network of relationships to enable your success in implementing strategy across rapidly changing markets
    • Strong organizational skills, including the capacity to supervise and drive multiple cross-functional work streams simultaneously
    • Expert communicator capable of engaging with a range of audiences that span technical analysts, high-level policy-makers, and commercial organizations and the ability to shape complex, multi-discipline information for specific audiences
    • Bias for action, demonstrated strength in strategy formation and execution, and an ability to adjust quickly to a changing policy landscape, quickly taking advantage of new opportunities as they arise
    • Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about energy system decarbonization
    • An experienced mentor and team builder, and a generous team player who collaborates well with diverse teams and is excited to act as a senior individual contributor, with the potential to build out a best-in-class team
