Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of
the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Utilizes therapeutic
communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe a therapeutic
environment. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the
individual needs of the patient. Plans individualized patient care
utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Participates in
performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates
participation that fosters the goals of the hospital's mission and
vision statement.When acting in charge nurse role, registered
nurses are responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the
delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment. Make
staff assignments based on patient need and the skill of the staff.
Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff. Respond
in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with
physician, staff or patient issues.QUALIFICATIONS:* Graduate of an
Accredited School of Nursing* Current RN licensure issued by the
Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. Will accept RNs with compact
licensure. Candidate must obtain RN Licensure from the Texas Board
of Nurse Examiners within 6 months of hire.* BCLS required* BSN
RequiredPERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:* Demonstrates the ability to

validation checklist(s).* Demonstrates age specific knowledge of
human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and
care of patients.* Ensures the privacy of our patient and
confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).* Meets

Performance Management Plan.* Utilizes nursing process for
individual care to meet needs of patients.* Demonstrates ability to
perform technical skills and procedures.* Documents all patient

and patient safety initiatives.JOB SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE
COMPETENCIES:Duties & Responsibilities1. Communication Skills:
Verbal (with patients, families, grieving persons)[Use of SBAR
whendealing with physicians and their offices, interdepartmental
communication] Written(documentation of patient care) Telephone
(Pertaining to etiquette including HIPAA information)2. Physical
Assessment of the Adult with acute and chronic illness, Infection
Control Issue/Safety.3. Proficiency in IV starts & ability to
access implanted ports.4. Administration of Medications - knowledge
of commonly utilized medications/proficiency with IV
pushmedications, initiation and management of PCA infusion.5.
Aseptic Technique with regard to wounds, surgical sites, and
catheter insertions.6. Management of airways - oxygen set-up (nasal
cannula, ventimask, NRB, trach collar, BIPAP,Suctioning (oral,
Nasal and tracheal), and tracheotomy care.7. Management of the
patient in cardiac and respiratory arrest.8. Management of the
patient with decubitus: staging, selection of surface, and
encouragesmobility.9. Management of drains (NG, OG, and PEG, chest
tube, paracentesis).10. Obtains consents (surgical, chemotherapy
etc), prepares patients for procedures (including boarding pass,
etc) such as Endoscopy, Cardiac Catheterizations, Bronchoscopy,
Thoracentesis (Especially at bedside), MRI/MRA11. Management of
blood transfusions - obtains consents, blood justifications forms
and refusal for bloodtransfusions. Monitors for transfusion
reactions.12. Management of the Peritoneal dialysis patient.DEGREE
OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED:Minimal - must be able to work
