Job Description:
Job DescriptionHours: Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m.Job Summary: Performs a variety of clerical duties related to
the procedures, laws, and record keeping tasks required of a
Municipal Court Record. Essential Functions: Regular and timely
attendance at work.
Performs computer data entry of all citations and other Class 'C'
misdemeanor charges filed in Municipal Court. Maintains and updates
all records on computer and case folder.
Manage payment schedule for defendants who have been granted time
payments.
Prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called.
Examines legal documents submitted to court for adherence to law or
court procedures, prepares case folders, and posts, files, or
routes documents.
Explains procedures or forms to parties in case.
Secures information for judges, and contacts witnesses, attorneys,
and litigants to obtain information for court, and instructs
parties when to appear in court.
Process and distribute jury summons.
Records case disposition, court orders, and arrangement for payment
of court fees.
Collects court fees or fines and records amounts collected.
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as
assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses: High school diploma or
equivalent, required.
Three (3) years experience in general clerical and detail related
work, including computer data entry, legal work, or any combination
of experience or training that would provide the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid, Class 'C' Texas Driver's License, required.
TMCEC Texas Municipal Court Clerk Certification preferred; may be
obtained within two (2) years of hire date.
SETCIC Training preferred; may be obtained during first (1st) year
of hire date. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to read and
comprehend affidavits, citations, court dockets, correspondence,
criminal and traffic records, case folders, simple instructions,
short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in
one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and
other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform mathematical calculations
to balance cash drawer and compute fines, bonds, and warrant
fees.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability
to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have
knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word
Processing software.
Ability to operate a PC, 10 key calculator, copy machine, label
maker, fax machine, telephone, and lap top computer.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to read and understand affidavits, citations, court
dockets, correspondence, reports, and other court documents.
Ability to perform detailed computerized clerical and accounting
work involving independent judgment and requiring speed and
accuracy.
Ability to deal with confidential subject matter in a professional
manner.
Ability to deal tactfully with difficult people and situations.
Ability to present a positive image of the City at all times.
Ability to write correspondence, reports, and other court
documents.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships.
Ability to fulfill requests or otherwise provide services, accurate
information or assistance in a courteous and timely manner without
complaining.
Ability to listen and demonstrate competence and interest to the
general public, citizens, and co-workers.
Considerable knowledge of state laws and regulations governing the
legal process related to the Court.
Knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and equipment,
including the use of computers, telephone, postage machine,
typewriter, and calculator. Physical Demands: The physical demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly
required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel, grasp and
manipulate various implements including court seal, docket stamp,
hole punch and stapler; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear

occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch and
squat while performing various filing tasks. Employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and
ability to adjust focus.
