Job DescriptionWASTEWATER Job Summary: Operates sewage
treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater
(sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of
sewage.WATER PRODUCTION Job Summary: Assists in the operation of
water production plants to control flow and processing of
water.Essential Functions: Regular and timely attendance at
work.
Assists and follows directives of Crew Leader and Supervisor.
Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by
remote control to regulate flow of sewage and/or regulate flow of
water.
Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter
and gauge readings and tests results to determine load
requirements.
Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of
raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge
digestion processes.
Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge
readings.
Collects sewage sample and conducts laboratory tests. Assists in
the collection of water samples and conducts laboratory
tests.Monitors operation of plant and makes necessary changes to
keep operating as directed by the Crew Leader; maintains compliance
with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations and
permit requirements.
Operates and maintains power generating equipment to provide
electricity for plant.
Serves as "essential personnel" and remain available for immediate
call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event
the Director of Public Works, Assistant City Manager, or the City
Manager deem necessary.
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as
assigned.Education, Experience, and Licenses: High school diploma
or equivalent (GED) is required.
Two (2) years experience in Waste Water Treatment, Waste Water
Collection, Waste Water Lab, Water Collection, and Water
Safety.
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Licenses: Class
"C" Waste Water Treatment or the ability to obtain within one (1)
year of hire for Wastewater position. TCEQ Class "C" Ground Water
State Certification required or the ability to obtain the
certification in 18 months after hire date for Water Production
position.
Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License is required.Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such
as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and
correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of
customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability
to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
Ability to operate a City vehicle for business use, back-hoe, fork
lift, lawn mowers, weed eaters, hand tools, radios, telephone, gas
detector, self contained breathing apparatus, dissolved oxygen
meter, p.h. meter, voltage meter, megger, and analogers.
Ability to make decisions regarding compliance of rules and
specifically when adjusting chlorine and sulfur dioxide.Ability to
assist in making adjustments to water well stations; CL2, pumps,
motors, scales, polymer, pressure tanks and compressors.
Knowledge of TCEQ rules and regulations, Texas Administrative Code,
and EPA rules and regulations.Must be able to work weekends and/or
holidays.
